Killer dogs put to sleep
Monday, 18 July 2011 11:22

AFTER months of protracted hearings, appeals and publicity, the two pitbulls responsible for the fatal mauling of an Irish tourist at an organic farm earlier this year were finally put to sleep.

The pitbulls, belonging to organic farmers Joseph Teoh Boon Aun and Teoh Bee Eng were put down on July 15, after the farmers reached an agreement with the Penang Municipal Council at the High Court. The dogs were put down via lethal injection at the Veterinary Services Department, and were later buried on the farm. Read here.

All four of the Teohs' unlicensed pitbulls were originally ordered to be put down, but following a successful appeal and a consent judgement at the High Court, the two dogs that were not responsible for the mauling were freed, under the assurance that they will be kept away from the public. The dogs were involved in the mauling of Maurice Sullivan on January 9, when Sullivan visited the farm to take photographs. Along with the Teohs, several animal rights activists were also present at the hearing. Read here.
